Discovered in 1684, Tethys' density is 0.97 times that of liquid water, which suggests that Tethys is composed almost entirely of water ice plus a small amount of rock. Tethys has two prominent features, a giant impact crater (240 km wide Odysseus) and a great valley, Ithaca Chasma, running roughly from the north pole to the south pole, 100km wide.
